Andy Day is an internationally published photographer specialising in adventure sports, travel, architectural and landscape photography. He has been photographing physical interaction with the city since 2003. With an MA in Photography from Goldsmiths, he also speaks, teaches and writes about visual culture and the sociology of urban space.
Through participant-observation, Andy's work examines the body’s relationship with the built environment, wilful misuse of architecture, subversive practices, appropriation of space and place, edgework and social interaction.
Andy is a proud member of the Urban Photographers Association and Crossing Lines.
Clients have included American Eagle, Jack Wolfskin, Gravis, Ecko Unlimited, Canon, Dairy Crest, and Yota. His work has been published in magazines and newspapers around the world, including The Sunday Times, The Guardian, Stuff, Front, Zoo, and Men's Fitness.
Writing
Andy is a senior writer for photography news website Fstoppers, publishing regular articles on topics ranging from NFTs, the ethics of street photography, photo agencies and child sexual exploitation (1,2), social media (1,2), and humour.
Andy also writes for Shotkit, often covering the fundamentals of photographic theory, product reviews, and technical guides.
Andy ghostwrites and copywrites content for the photographic industry.
Teaching / Speaking
Andy has presented his photographic work at academic conferences, most recently at Experiencing Architecture hosted by the Royal Academy of Arts, Urban Encounters hosted by Tate Modern and Goldsmiths, Exploring Embodied Research hosted by Canterbury Christ Church University, Lisbon Memory Symposium, and The Contemporary Arts Center (Cincinnati). He also appears as a guest lecturer.
He is a frequent presence at parkour training events where he speaks and runs workshops on photography, urban space, and commercialisation, as well as teaching people how to climb buildings.
